Welcome, traveler, to Ilford. Your journey has landed you here, and new adventures are calling your name. Now that you’ve arrived, you can stay in the safety and comfort of your hotel and watch the world spin past…or you can embrace this new place you’ve come to. Learn its streets. Meet its people. Learn its history. Your hand is already on the doorknob, isn’t it?
A historic commuter town – even when it was with horse and carts – Ilford has bloomed to become an important London suburb. Just 12 miles from the centre of London, Ilford is close enough to enjoy the city centre sights while offering plenty of its own, including some brilliant parks, forests and open spaces. The town is a multicultural hub, with a diverse range of coffee shops and restaurants covering everything from halal all-day breakfasts to vegan cafes, Portuguese speciality outlets, Turkish steakhouses and more. Throw in some cracking bars, pubs and clubs, one of the most active Bollywood cinemas in the UK and a vibrant local theatre and you have an East London suburb ripe for discovering. And our London Ilford hotel is in a prime location for all the best sights and attractions.
We’ve popped together a handy guide of things to do around O2 arena just in case you are blessed to be there and in dire need of something to distract yourself from the sheer hopelessness of the situation. London has got it all and it is a lot easier if you know where you’re going and you’re staying in a Plum Guide-approved home. From green spaces, giant bits of art, the world’s most divisive mode of transport and (arguably) the world’s greatest museum and gallery, there are plenty of things to do around the O2 arena that doesn’t involve the entirely rubbish ill-fated Millenium Dome.
We’ve loved welcoming you back to The O2 over the last few months. We have so much to do under one roof – take a look below to discover what’s happening at The O2.
We’re open daily from 10am.
The complex is home to ten skyscrapers with a height of more than 160 metres and contains about 1.5 million square metres of office space.
It is built around the now disused West India Docks, one of the world’s busiest docks from the start of the 19th century until the outbreak of World War Two.
These days, Canary Wharf is one of the United Kingdom’s two international financial centres, alongside the City of London. Over 150,000 people work here, earning an average salary of over £115,000.
Canary Wharf also offers urban living at its best: stunning modern architecture, impressive public spaces, great transport links, and world class shopping, restaurants, bars, gyms and other amenities.
A booming blend of high rise, retail and restaurants located on the waterfront, Canary Wharf and Docklands may not be at the top of everyone’s London hit-list, with locals and tourists alike thinking it is mainly for city workers who work in the skyscrapers.
However, scratch beneath the surface of Canary Wharf and Docklands and you’ll discover rooftop gardens, art installations and some of the best shopping spots in London, without the usual queues and hubris. Combined with great transport links (and even some interesting ones like the Emirates AirLine), here is our guide to the best things to do in Canary Wharf and Docklands in East London
